The headlines are not encouraging I'm afraid in that another year group of pupils have now been awarded places at their secondary schools and await to hear (on 16th May) whether they will be granted school transport. For families in Melsonby who have opted for Richmond School, we expect the answer to be ‘no' sadly, as the same system for measurement is being applied as last year (errors and all). Primary school children go through the same process starting next month. The other news is that the council have now set the timing of the long-awaited post implementation review.
This will be presented to the Exec Committee in Oct/Nov 2026 to decide if any amendments are required. If they agree to act the proposed changes will then go to public consolation in Spring 2027, but the May 2027 elections mean the changes won’t be sent to Full Council until July 2027 and nothing would alter until Sept 2028.
That effectively means this existing set of councillors have kicked the can down the road and plan to leave it to the new administration to decide. Attempts to get this timeline pulled forward to its originally proposed dates failed last November (disappointedly, Angus voted to delay).
